University has canceled exams from December 28, 2007 to December 31, 2007
Mohammad Ali Jinnah University has canceled exams from December 28, 2007 to December 31, 2007. Rescheduled exams will be announced later by the examination department. Exams from Tuesday, January 01, 2008 will be conducted according to the original date sheet.

Projects assigned by Mr. S.M.M Raza Naqvi Assistant Professor Mohammad Ali Jinnah University are designed to help to sharpen the organizational skills of the students. Each group consisting of five members was free to choose the type of event they wanted to organize.

Mohammad Ali Jinnah University participates in Career Focused Exhibition
St. Mary's Academy, Tulsa Road Rawalpindi recently held a Career Exhibition and invited Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus to participate. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) under the able guidance of Mr.S.M.M.Raza Naqvi, Assistant Professor and Patron of SHRM, is a highly active society, which periodically holds extremely meaningful events such as "Job Fairs", "Symposiums", "Workshops" and "Educational Seminars".

Hockey Match: MAJU Lions vs. MAJU Tigers
A Hockey Match between different departments has now become a part of the culture of the University. Jinnah Sports Club once again organized the match in this semester on November 16, 2007 under the supervision of Mr. Arif Khattak.
M.A.J.U.Tigers of the department of Faculty of Engineering and Sciences led by their Captain Athar Waseem, versus M.A.J.U. Lions of the Faculty of Business Administration and Social Sciences led by their Captain Farrukh Kaleem played this match in the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium, Islamabad.This was the third match between these departments. A large number of students and hockey fans watched this game which began at 4.00 p.m. Both teams played superbly.M.A.J.U. Lions won the match with a goal score of 3-1. Mr. Arif Khattak presented the winner's trophy to M.A.J.U Lions and the runners up trophy to M.A.J.U. Tigers.

Hiking Trip to Pir Sohawa
Jinnah Sports Society under the guidance of Mr. Arif Khattak (Sports Coordinator) organized a Hiking Trip to Pir Sohawa. An open invitation was extended to all including faculty members.
November 3, 2007 was a warm day and soon the University buses were filled with students eager to hike up to Pir Sohawa. The students began the trip at full of enthusiasm and reached the meeting point in time to have lunch.
Mr. Ansir Ali Rajput, Dr.Imtiaz Taj, Mr. Waseem Ahmed also enjoyed the trip. The students were served a delicious lunch before boarding the buses for the University. The students are looking forward to another hiking trip.

Red Crescent thanks M.A.J.U.
As reported earlier, Dr.Murtaza Qureshi of Red Crescent and Mr.Arif Khattal Patron of the Jinnah Sports Club organized a blood donation camp. Dr. Murtaza Qureshi has shown his appreciation by writing a letter dated November 30, 2007 to the Executive Vice President Dr. M. Mansoor Ahmed thanking Mohammad Ali Jinnah University for its cooperation in this noble cause.
He also appreciated the support given by Mr.Arif Khattak, Mr.Tariq Manager H.R. and Mrs. Parveen Tarique Manager Student Affairs for their cooperation. Merit Certificates were also issued to the students along with their Donor cards and Blood Screening result.

A seminar on Marketing Product Life Cycle Strategies
"Marketing Product Life Cycle Strategies" was the topic of the seminar organized by the students of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, on October 31, 2007. A group of six students namely Ch.Muhammad Mohsin Ghafoor (Group leader) Anees Zafar, Ammar Tahir, Mian Raheel Ali, Sabih ul Hassan & Furrukh Shahzad .Professor Arif Vaseer was the Supervisor and the guest speaker was Mr.Kashif Mehmood, Quality Manager, Siemens Pakistan Co.Ltd.

Seminar on Branding
Students of BBA studying the Marketing Management course arranged a seminar on the topic "Branding" on November 14, 2007 at 3:00pm in Iqbal Auditorium under the supervision of Associate Professor Mr. Arif Vaseer. The two guest speakers were Mr. Saqib Khan (Consumer Business Manager, Branch Banking/Consumer Client) ABN AMRO Bank, Blue Area Islamabad and Mr. Ahmed Jawad (Account Director) Orient McCann Erickson.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah University organizes a Mushaira with National AIDS Control Program
A Mushaira was arranged by the Society of Human Resource Management Muhammad Ali Jinnah University Islamabad Campus in collaboration with National Aids Control Program on November 29, 2007 Pak Palace Hotel, Islamabad.

M.A.J.U's Fifth Convocation, a special event

Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus has celeberated its Fifth Convocation on November 22, 2007, at the Convention Center Islamabad.
It was a landmark celebration and was organized by the members of the faculty, administration, staff and the students. The true spirit of team work was evident and the dedication with which they worked hard towards celebrating this glorious event was commendable.

M.A.J.U. students secure First Positions

An All Pakistan Software Competition, "DNA & Protein Bioinformatics Toolkit" was held at Baharia University Islamabad on Saturday October 27, 2007. Students from different universities participated in this competition.
Mr.Ghulam Ali Mirza and Ms. Hina Naz, Bioinformatics students of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus, secured First Position in the competition .

Genix Organizes Farewell Iftar Party

For the benefit of our readers we are including a brief introduction of what the word Genix stands for. Gen stands for Genomes, I for information (derived by using computer science, biology and mathematics); X symbolizes DNA (deoxy ribonucleic acid) double helix.
Genix the society of Bioinformatics Department at M.A.J.U aiming to promote Bioinformatics, by organizing workshops, lectures, graduate seminars, quiz competitions etc. It is also actively involved in creating awareness about bioinformatics, being a new discipline and its impact in different areas of science and technology. Genix not only promotes educational activities but also organizes extra-curricular activities for the students.In the honor of the Second Graduating batch of Bioinformatics from M.A.J.U, GENIX organized a Farewell Iftar Party on October 8, 2007, at Envoy Continental Hotel Islamabad. Faculty members including Dr. Sahar Fazal, Dr. Shaukat and Mrs. Quratulain Jalil attended party.
Graduate students including Mehreen Ali, Hina Naz, Shumaila Sayyab, Asma Inayat and Ghulam Ali shared their memories of their campus life and praised their favorite teachers. The students organized interesting games and came up with humorous name-tags! Students of Bioinformatics department presented bouquets and gifts to the graduating students. The event was organized by Genix members; M. Sulaman, Ammad, Wilayat, Arfa, Nazia, Rabia, Tehreem, Misbah and Awais. Photographs were also taken.

BS-BIOINFORMATICS INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

It was an honor for the Bioinformatics Department of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus, that eleven (11) students were enrolled in international projects during summer 2007.
Mehreen Ali a Bio-informatics student worked on the project titled Phlyogenetic analysis of Hexon genes, DNA polymerase genes and E1A proteins from selected serotypes of human adenoviruses.
This project was supervised by Dr.Donald Seto, Associate Professor, George Mason University, USA, and Dr.Sahar Fazal, Associate Professor, of this University Islamabad

Summer Business Projects Report

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) The project of development of HR plan with Budgeting for Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) was undertaken by Alimuddin, Salahuddinn Ahmed and Ali Jawad. The final report submitted by the research group was highly appreciated by Mr. Raja Jawaid Iqbal, HR Manager Manpower Planning PTCL Headquarters Islamabad.

CRESCENDO organizes a Naat & Qirat competition

In keeping with the spirit of Ramadan Crescendo organized a Naat and Qirat competition at the Mohammad Ali Jinnah University on Friday September 28, 2007.
The Executive Vice President Dr.M.Mansoor Ahmed was the guest of honor. Mr.Ahmed Qadir, the Vice President of Jamait-e-Ullema-e-Pakistan (NWFP) was the chief guest. The famous Naat Khwan from Peshawar, Imran Hasan Qadir was the judge for the competition.
Mr.Muhammad Salman Nawaz and Mr.Abdur Rehman got the First prize for the Qirat and Naat Competition respectively

Save the Children UK a summer project for M.A.J.U. students

Muhammad Usman , and Ahmad Hafeez BBA students were assigned Save the Children (UK), an international non-government organization working to provide immediate and lasting improvement to children's live worldwide. Their summer project centered on reduction of child labor, improve quality and access to education programs, through teachers training.

Students involved in business projects and research work for the government and private sector

Students of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus were involved in a number of business projects and research work for the government and private sector during the summer.
The objective is for the students to acquire hands on experience in the corporate and government sector. Students work in small groups and are like "consultants". Every project is supervised by a faculty member and supervisors play a key role by creating a comfort zone between students and the representative of the organization.

M.A.J.U. and PAKTEL work together

Professor Arif Vaseer was the coordinator for a Summer Project with Paktel. Three MBA students Mudassir Ehtisham, Abdul Wahab and Kiran Khan worked on this project. Mr.Moazzam Ali Shah, Corporate Account Manager Paktel, was the Supervisor.
The objective was to help to promote Paktel’s new product which is youth oriented, and to observe and analyze Paktel’s current position and image in the market.
The group achieved their daily target, did the maximum stall activity out of eight universities, three colleges and other institutes and got job offers.
Paktel was so impressed by the enthusiasm shown by M.A.J.U. students that they decided to have another six week Summer Project.

M.A.J.U. now has OPAC

The library in Mohammad Ali Jinnah University recently installed Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) which will enable the reader to search for any book by title, author or word.

117 new books

The library has also acquired 117 new books on Financial Management, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource, Management, Leadership etc.

Two students land jobs
Professor M.I.Ramay was the supervisor for the summer project which focused on Business Development. He supervised three MBA students Waqas Ahmad, Sohail Mehmood, Rizwan Farooq while they did their summer project with Global Links International.
The group worked in different departments of the organization and at the end of the project one student was hired as Manager Procurement and the other as Accounts Supervisor.

Business Development of HIT by M.A.J.U. students

Business Development of Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) was the summer project supervised by Professor Muhammad I.Ramay. Obaid Akhtar, Syed Mujtaba Hayder, Arsalan Malik had to study the Organizational Performance of HIT.
HIT is a leading defense goods manufacturer in Taxila and the group had to study its organizational performance and deliver suitable recommendations. They developed a questionnaire which was filled out by the employees.
The group presented their findings and recommendations to the concerned department.

76 new books on Electronics, Computer Science, and Bioinformatics

The library in Mohammad Ali Jinnah University has acquired 76 new text books related to the field of Electronics, Computer Science and Bioinformatics. Mr.Khurram Shehzad, Librarian M.A.J.U. also informed all that, Tarjuman-ul-Quran is also available in the Digital Library.
The library also has the latest Harvard Business Review apart from current issues of popular magazines, periodicals and the daily newspapers.

PhD Scholarship Handbook

An updated PhD Scholarship Handbook was compiled by four students of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University. Aasma Ejaz Khan, Aiysha Ejaz Khan, Sahar Naeem and Mansoor Ahmed put together the handbook as part of their summer project. Miss. Maria Mashkoor, Lecturer, supervised the project.
They carried out a detailed and comprehensive study on PhD Scholarships related to Business Administration and Social Sciences. USA, UK, Malaysia, Australia and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) were also covered in their survey.
The handbook contains detailed list of universities and their ranking; the types of scholarships offered, eligibility criteria and what is covered under the scholarship.

M.A.J.U. students present marketing strategy for AVT Channels

Miss. Maria Mashkoor Lecturer, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University supervised a summer project assigned to MBA students, Sidra Zahid, Uzair Khan, and Moeid Arshad. The client was Mr.Zahid Hussain Khalid, Head of Research and Development, AVT Channels (Pvt) Ltd.
The students had to devise a marketing strategy to showcase each channel with a set of unique selling propositions, a brief profile of the target viewers of each program, and a proposed program mix for a network of three channels for 24/7 news, entertainment and youth plus one liners.
The group gave their solutions to AVT Channels after carrying out an in depth study of the people of NWFP. Their initiative and drive was highly appreciated by Mr.Zahid Hussain Khalid who while wishing the students all the best for the future was very impressed by the work done by Moeid Arshad and Uzair Khan.

MOU between EDC and NERC signed

A Memorandum of Understanding between the Entrepreneurship Development Center of Mohammad Ai Jinnah University (M.A.J.U.) and National Institute of Science and Technical Education Entrepreneurship Resource Center (NERC) was signed in July 2007.
The MOU was signed by Mr.Ansir Ali Rajput, Head Department of Business Administration of MAJU and Maj.General ® Syed Shahid Mukhtar Shah, Director General NERC. Both bodies shall carry out efforts to promote education, training, development of educational material and research in the field of entrepreneurship.
This MOU shall be valid for one year from the date of signing and may be renewed for further periods by mutual consent in writing.

M.A.J.U. students analyze Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) performance

The summer business project assigned to three students namely Burhan Asjad, Syed Shafqat Hussain and Hassan Farooq was to analyze the performance of the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP).
A presentation was organized by Mr.Javeed Anwar and the students in the workshop room. The SSP ITP Mr. Zubair Hashmi, and Safety Officer ITP Miss. Summera Batool and other officers of ITP attended the presentation. The EVP Dr.Mansoor Ahmed, Mr.Ansir Ali Rajput HoD Business Administration, Mr.Arif Vaseer Associate Professor and Mr.S.M.M.Raza Naqvi , were also present.
The students designed questionnaires centering on 915 Help Line, Wireless Room. Digital Licensing ITP Driving School and Driving Test. The questionnaire was distributed to the general public and transporters to get an unbiased assessment of ITP. The response was positive and the public agreed that the ITP personnel were not rude and helped them in times of emergencies.
SSP Mr. Zubair Hashmi was impressed with the survey done by the students. At the conclusion of the presentation gifts were exchanged.

Orientation Day scheduled for August 25, 2007

The process of enrollment for the Fall Semester 2007 at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University has concluded. Fresh students will attend the orientation session being conducted at the Islamabad Campus. Students are encouraged to ask relevant questions pertaining to the programs that they are enrolled in.Students are also advised to read the Student Hand Book carefully and to follow the instructions.

Classes begin on Monday August 27, 2007

Classes for the Fall Semester will start on Monday, August 27, 2007. The class time-table has already been posted on the Notice Board and students are requested to note down their class schedules. Between August 27- 31, 2007 students wishing to Add or Drop Courses will have the option to do so.

MAJU Technical Rating by HEC

Higher Education Commission (HEC) has recently published the technical rating of different Universities and Degree Awarding Institutions of Pakistan. We are pleased to announce that Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad has been rated best amongst the seven private Universities operating in Islamabad.

MAJU Presents Pakistan's Private Education Sector in Dawn Education Expo2007
Dawn Group of newspapers organized an Education Expo 2007 at Jinnah Convention Centre Islamabad on February 24- 25, 2007. More than 100 universities from Pakistan, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, France, Ireland, Korea and United State of America participated in the Expo 2007.
