Ad & Film Competition The chief guest and judge for this event was Mr. Mudassir Ahmed Khan, Managing Director of a production company (Muraz). He is also working as a producer in Express News. He has various Ad and Film competition awards to his credit and recently won the documentary competition arranged by Dawn News. In the Ad competition Nabil Toor, Mian Raheel, Bilawal and Saima Malik won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. Whereas in the Film Competition Usman Ali Shah, Nabil Toor and Sajid Zulfiqar won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. The winners were given cash prizes. Mr. Mudassir was very impressed by the performance shown by the students and he also gave them some valuable tips and techniques to improve their skills. He also praised the efforts of the Crescendo for providing a platform for such creativity. He congratulated the students for making such a superior effort in limited resources. At the end of the event there was a photo session and then the university crest was presented to the chief guest. The function ended with a photo session and refreshments. |
Chancellor and Dean Honor Rolls Senator Engr. Rukhsana Zuberi, Chairperson Pakistan Engineering Council, was the Chief Guest. She distributed the Chancellor’s / Dean’s Honor Certificates and shields to 64 students (28 from Electronic Engineering, 21 from Bioinformatics and 15 from Computer Sciences, departments respectively). She also distributed the shields for Best Final Year Design Project (Fall 08 & Spring 09 semesters) to 11 students of Electronic Engineering. The Chairperson congratulated the students on their excellent academic achievements. She expressed her appreciation for the efforts and contribution of the University in the area of Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Bio-Informatics. Visit to Morocco Dr. Nayyer Masood, Head of Department CS&BI at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus visited Morocco to attend the SKIMA 09 conference and to attend the physical meeting of coordinators of eLINK project. SKIMA 09 was the third conference of its series. It was arranged in Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University, Fez. Participants from more than 20 countries participated in the conference; among them they had very useful presentations and discussions during the conference. The second objective of the meeting was to attend the meeting of eLINK coordinators. eLINK is an EU funded project, linking 11 universities from Europe and Asia. Coordinators from 10 countries were present there. They discussed the current status of the project, decided future action plan and found the progress of the report satisfactory. Possibilities of future collaborations were also discussed during the meeting. Fez is an old city of Morocco, exhibiting modern trends and old traditions of the country. The old Fez city has been surrounded by a large wall and it is called ‘Madina’. They have transformed it into a tourist place, offering many attractions to the tourists, specially the local products. Many tourists from different parts of the world are found in Fez. Hotels from very cheap to five stars hotels are available there. It is a neat and clean city. |

Human Development Report Publication Seminar The event was held on the October 5, 2009. A delegate of 16 students (MS HRM) along with Lecturer Ahsan Mahmood Ahmed attended the launch of a report on Human Development by UNDP. The guest of honour for this occasion was the Federal Minister for overseas Pakistani Mr Farooq Sattar. A research report was produced by UNDP on the issue of mobilising Human Development in Pakistan and all over the world. The following issues were highlighted; over coming barriers on human mobility and development in Pakistan and internationally, improving life of immigrants by diversifying their distribution all over the world, research identified that more than 30% of the population is living in rural areas and wants to move to urban areas for employment, Pakistan is ranked on 141 out of 181 countries for unemployment rate according to Human Development Index (HDI),Most of the Pakistani migrants move to England, Middle East and the Gulf countries for better living standards, the report also stated that migration can create development but is not a substitute for human mobility, families moving into developing countries increase the level of their children’s education and living standards, unequal distribution of wages is also a cause for mobilising humans, most movers gain financially while migrating to different countries, 2.2% of Pakistanis move abroad every year for better living standards, The seminar was very informative for the MS-HRM students of M.A.J.U. The students learning curve increased by understanding the concept of human development which is also a part of their course. It helped them to understand the roles of different organisations in facilitating human mobility on national and international level. At the end of the seminar the students of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University participated in the question & answer session to overcome ambiguities. The report highlighted the issue of mobilising human development at the national and International level. Mobility is a concept which can improve the economic situation of the country. It can increase employment and distribution of citizens in the country. Mobility is done for increasing life standard and better education system for children. The government of Pakistan must consider human mobility as on national level and make a strategy to implement this program. Infrastructure and support should be provided by the government to UNDP for the fulfilment of their project for mobilising human all over Pakistan and in the rest of the world as well. |

M.A.J.U. says,” Salaam Teachers” At least 100 teachers from government and private colleges attended the seminar which began late in the afternoon with the recitation from the Holy Quran. A lively discussion was held on ‘Do we have standard education in Pakistan?’ Mr. Amir Rizwan Principal of Islamabad College of Management and Commerce shared his thoughts with the audience. “Salaam Teacher” was a befitting tribute to all the teachers who take pains to guide the youth and share their knowledge with them. Mr.Ansir Ali Rajput, Head of Department Management Sciences and Mr.Khurram Shehzad were the guest speakers. The chief guest was Mr.Fayyaz -Ur-Rahman Associate Professor at this University. Mr.Ansir Ali Rajput expressed the desire to start a Salaam Teachers’ club to help pay tribute to the wonderful work done by all teachers, and as a platform for teachers to express their feelings. President RCCI lauds M.A.J.U. Entrepreneurs Mr. Syed Asad Mashadi, President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), was the guest speaker. He appreciated the effort of the entrepreneurs and for the University highlighting their effort. The entrepreneurs lamented how ‘load shedding’ was affecting their business. The President RCCI assured them that the problem would be solved soon. Mr. Ansir Ali Rajput, Head of Department Management Sciences, also appreciated their effort at exploring different business ventures. He presented shields, souvenirs and certificates to the entrepreneurs. He also thanked Mr.Mashadi for encouraging the budding entrepreneurs and presented him with a shield. |
Fund raising concert for the House of Light School organized by M.A.J.U. students The Battle of the Bands that performed at this charity show were from the universities of Islamabad. Two bands namely Kaffas and Viraag were from Iqra University, The Red Eye and Illuminati from Bahria University and Zeher from FAST University. The management of The House of Light appreciated the enthusiasm of the students in organizing the show. The judges at the end announced the Kaffas Band as the winner of the Battle of the Bands. |
M.A.J.U. hosts Youth Show on ‘The role of leadership in developing countries’ Syed Asad Tirmazi Leader, Pakistan Youth Association, Mr. Jamil Asgar Bhatti Youth Activist and Senior Analyst, Mr. Zahid Mehmood Deputy Secretary All Pakistan Boys Scout, Ms. Shazia Javed President, Crescent Lions Club presented the introductory address and Ms.Maria Mashkoor, Lecturer/Patron Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus. This show was aired by News One TV on August 30, 2009 at 12:20 pm. The basic discussion focused on how leadership can be developed, the role of education and media, the need of patriotism and unity. Syed Asad Tirmazi responded to a question on hereditary leadership, which is the norm in Asia. He said that it exists because no one is there to challenge it. The youth must enter politics and work for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan. To a question about improvements and implementation, Mr. Zahid Mehmood and Mr. Jamil Asghar Bhatti gave an example of the Holy Prophet (Peace.B.Upon.Him) who kept his calm in the face of adversities and led the people in the perfect manner. Answering a question on the prevailing system in Pakistan, Ms. Maria pointed out that one person doesn’t make a system, we all do. She emphasized the need to stop the blame game and to concentrate on contributing positively. Everyone can become a leader when they start influencing others. |
NAAT Competition at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus
The holy month of Ramazan is the ninth month in the Islamic Calendar; it is the month in which the holy Quraan was revealed. It is a month of fasting and devotion to Allah. To celebrate this month, Crescendo in collaboration with JSPARK, JES & GENIX, organized a Naat competition on September 10, 2009, in the Iqbal Auditorium. Qari Gulzar Madni, is the Muezzan at Faisal Masjid, and is also the pioneer of the Qirat Academy. Professor Kaleem Ullah Zia is the HoD at Internship College Rawalpindi and he is also doing his PhD in Islamic Law. Both were the judges at the occasion. Crescendo Patron Mrs.Ameena Zafar, Assistant Professor and the HOD of Computer Sciences & Bio Informatics Department and the patron of JSPARK, Dr. Nayyar, HoD of Engineering Department Dr. Fazal Ur Rehman, the Patron of JES Dr. Mohammad Sagheer, collaborated to hold this competition. The Registrar Mr. Naqi Syed also attended the function. The event started with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Ten students participated in the Naat Competition and presented their admiration to the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The best recitals were by Saqib Imran, Sabeena Rafique and Saima Malik. The judge gave the position holders shields for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. The Crescendo Patron thanked the chief guest and judge for taking out some time from their busy schedules for this auspicious event. Shields were also presented to the chief guest and judges. The ceremony concluded with a prayer for the Muslim Ummah. |

M.A.J.U. signs MoU with Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr.Ansir Ali Rajput, Head of Department Management Sciences signed the MoU on behalf of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus at an impressive ceremony held at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which was graced by former presidents, members of RCCI executive committee and faculty of the five universities. President of RCCI Mr.Asad Mashhadi, speaking on the occasion pointed out the urgent need to bridge the gap between academia and industry prompted RCCI to take the initiative. He hoped that this step would be appreciated by all and boosts industrial growth. RCCI should identify industry needs so that precious resources are not wasted. The collaboration will not only improve the quality of education and set the trend for research based education, but will also bring about revolutionary changes in the country’s educational system. A viable relationship between industry and research organizations is imperative, as without research no development at any level can take place. The MoU will offer a unique experience to our students and will provide a practical experience to complement academic studies. French diplomats visit Mohammad Ali Jinnah University They toured the campus and were given a comprehensive presentation about the University and its industrial and academic collaborations and R&D projects. The scientific attaché gave a presentation about various French and E.U. collaborative programs. They also discussed the possibility of a scientific collaboration between Mohammad Ali Jinnah University and French organizations. Also discussed were French and E.U. scholarships. The friendly ambiance created between the visiting diplomats and members of the faculty will go a long way in cementing ties. |

Jinnah Finance Society hosts a seminar The Chairman of SME Bank and SME Leasing, Mr. S.M.Naseem was invited to share his vast experience and knowledge with the students. The respected guest gave an excellent presentation. He discussed major issues facing SME Financing in Pakistan. An astonishing revelation by the respected speaker was that only 15% of the Pakistani population have accounts in local banks, that’s why many foreign banks are investing in Pakistan like Barclays, RBS etc. It was a very informative session for the students and added to their knowledge. The lecture was followed by a question answer session in which the guest responded to the queries of the students. There were about 20 exhibitors who show cased their products in The Expo like M/S. ARCO INTERNATIONAL, M/S CATKIN ENGINEERING SERVICES, M/S ELECTROMECH etc. The students asked different questions about the quality of products manufactured on the national and international scale. MS students attend workshop on “How to write a Research Proposal” On 21 March 2009, a self development workshop was organized by British Council at FAST University, H-11 Islamabad Campus. Mr. Simon Hall, Assistant Director, University of Warwick was the speaker. Master of Science (MS) Students of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus nominated by the faculty attended the workshop. Mr.Simon Hall gave a global perspective on concerns like increasing self-awareness and areas for self- development, making the most of work experience and how to write a research proposal. The participants witnessed a series of interactive skill development and capacity building practices. Students gained valuable insights and expert tips to develop their own writing, analysis and self appraisal skills. The workshop ended with a question answer session and students were given certificates by the host. |
Industrial Visit to Zong Islamabad
The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) organized a visit for the students studying E-Business to Zong, Islamabad on February 13, 2009. The purpose of this visit was to understand the online operations of Zong and to be knowledgeable about the telecom industry in Pakistan. Visit to Kenya High Commission Islamabad The purpose of this visit was to understand the international operations of the Kenya Embassy and its ties with Pakistan. The students were welcomed by the High Commissioner Mrs. Mishi Masika, Mr. Wammbilianga First Secretary, and Mr. Chemisto Commercial Attaché. The students learnt about the increasing level of interaction between the Kenyan and Pakistani business community and the business potential that exists between the two countries. The students also they learnt about the cultural similarities between the two countries along with the investment opportunities that exist in Kenya for Pakistanis. |
Seminar on the Current Scenario of International Business The students discussed the world scenario and its repercussion on all business activities and behavior due to the failure of the worlds’ big economies. The financial crisis and the problems leading to the global crisis and their possible solutions were discussed. |
Visit to Nimrall Pharmaceuticals, Rawat
On Monday, February 23, 2009, the students of International Business Management, in collaboration with SHRM organized a visit to the Nimrall Pharmaceuticals - Nimrall Group of Companies, in Rawat. They market ethical, therapeutic, cosmocueticals, medical instruments, fine chemicals and allied products. The group was met by Mr. Irfan Ellahi, General Manager and the owner Mr. Kashif Syed. The purpose of this visit was to be study the international operations of Nimrall Pharmaceuticals, especially their exports and imports. They also learnt that the pharmaceutical industry is the fastest growing industry of Pakistan. Ms. Maria Mashkoor supervised the visit. |
Visit to NAYAtel, Islamabad The purpose of this visit was to get familiar with the online operations of NAYAtel. The students learnt that NTL's aim is to convert Islamabad into the most IT enabled and broadband rich and smart city not only in the country but in the whole South Asian region. |
Seminar on Enterprise Resource Planning The purpose of the seminar was to hear about the working of the ERP system, and what benefits organizations are deriving by implementing this system. The students got an understanding of how the ERP system operates and how it attempts to integrate business processes across departments onto a single enterprise-wide information system. |
Warid Telecommunication Limited, Islamabad, visited The students learnt about the investments of Abu Dhabi Group in Pakistan, functions of Warid and the important role telecommunication is playing in the world. |
Visit to Samaa News Channel, Islamabad The basic purpose of the visit, under the supervision of Ms. Maria Mashkoor, was to get information about how media channels get the information about events happening in the world and across the borders, and what strategies they employ to be competitive and remain in the market. The students gathered valuable information about the news channel industry. |

Naat Competition
The new semester began with a Naat Competition arranged by Crescendo on February 9, 2009. Eleven entries were received and nine participants were selected to participate. The HoD Mr. Ansir Ali Rajput was the Chief Guest and Qari Gulzar Madni was the judge at this occasion. The former praised the efforts of Crescendo for arranging such religious activities besides the other co-curricular activities through out the year under the supervision of Mrs. Ameena Zafar. The event started with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Afterwards all the participants of the Naat Competition presented their admiration to the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The judge announced three positions for the best recitals. The first three winners were presented with shields. The Crescendo patron Mrs. Ameena Zafar thanked the chief guest and judge for taking out some time for this from their busy schedules. Shields were also presented to the chief guest and judge. The ceremony concluded with a prayer for the Muslim ummah. The guests then proceeded to tea. |

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mansoor Ahmed awarded Gold Medal
Dr. M. Mansoor Ahmed, Executive Vice President, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad was awarded a Gold Medal by the Pakistan Academy of Sciences for his outstanding contribution in the field of Engineering and Technology. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mansoor Ahmed received his PhD degree in Microelectronics from the University of Cambridge, U.K. He has been associated with academia at various levels for the last 15 years, and currently he is a professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad, where he is also holding the post of Executive Vice President of the University. Dr. Ahmed is a chartered engineer from UK and he is a fellow of Institution of Engineer and Technology, UK. He was awarded the title of European Engineer (Eur. Ing.) in 2002 by European Federation. He is a senior member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, USA. He enjoys lifetime membership of IEEE Electron Devices and IEEE Microwave Theory and Technique societies, USA. Dr. Ahmed has authored more than 70 research papers in the field of High Frequency Device Fabrication, Characterization and Modeling. He holds IEEE technical activities chair and has rendered services as an organizer, session chair and general chair of several IEEE International Conferences. |

Recently Mr.Parvez Khan, an Advocate and MNA was the chief guest at a seminar organized by students studying Human Resource Management, on Labor Laws in Pakistan conducted at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad Campus. The seminar supervised by Mr.Arif Khattak began with a recitation of the Holy Quran by Usman Qureshi. Mr.Parvez Khan shared his views with the students. He first told the gathering about the Labor Laws in Pakistan. Also he discussed the international labor laws in detail.He discussed the history of Labor laws.He discussed the reasons of failure of implementing the labor laws in Pakistan. Suggestions to properly implementations of labor laws were also discussed by the guest speaker. |

A one day educational and learning activity labeled”Marketing Tourism” was organized for the students studying, Fundaments of Marketing. It was a day trip to Khewra Salt Mines, the second largest salt mine in the world. The students were doing an assignment and exploring the salt mines.
