In Database Integration, the focus research area of the group is Schema Matching mainly in the framework of Multidatabase System. Multidatabase technology aims to give its users access to the data from multiple, heterogeneous and distributed databases. A critical aspect to this type of access is the integration of the schemas of the participating databases. Schema integration requires the identification of elements among different databases that model similar concepts. This particular process is called schema matching and same is the focus of our research group. The groups is working on a research proposal where component schemas are compared with each other adding semantics into the schema and considering the context of comparison.

The schema matching process is also critical to the Data Warehousing, where a data warehouse is to be populated from multiple data resources. So the group members are also working in the domain of Data Warehouse and currently we are working on the definition of a Generalized Schema Repository for Data Warehouse and also an automated approach to transform a conceptual database schema to a Data Warehouse schema.
